Mauritius: the rising tide of salt - GCCA+

Farmers on Rodrigues - 500 km from the main island of Mauritius - face one of the lesser-known impacts of climate change: salt contamination caused by sea level rise. Sea water floods coastal fields and seeps into bore holes, making it hard to grow a decent crop. The EU’s flagship GCCA+ programme is investing €3m to help farmers become more resilient to climate change - for example by building rainwater storage tanks, flood defences and sinking deeper boreholes.
